The Mafubira Child Outreach Center
“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to constantly work alongside and for orphans and widows in their affliction, despite any costs, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” James 1:27
Ministry Muzik is currently sending 100% of its proceeds to an orphanage housing over 50 orphans and widows in Jinja, Uganda.
This orphanage, The Mafubira Child Outreach Center, was founded and is led by a man named Magoola Denis, who is himself an orphan with a war-torn past and a heart for God. Magoola has dedicated his life to taking in and caring for the homeless children and struggling widows from his area, even though he himself suffers from poverty.
When we first met Magoola in 2019, his orphanage was destitute. Children were dying from lack of provision while he did everything he could to tend to their needs, despite a dire absence of resources.
Looking at a picture of one of the little girls who had died in Magoola's care just a couple of months before we found him, our hearts were broken. Her death was the result of the orphanage not being able to afford a medication that would have cost $250.
We pictured our own children, and what mountains we would move to keep them safe. This little girl was somebody's child. She was God's child. And we were moved to help.
Because they lack essential resources such as clean drinking water and a proper facility, the Mafubira Child Outreach Center does not qualify for government assistance in Uganda. It is one of our goals to change this.
Feeding the Many with Little
Currently we are able to send $500 per month to Magoola’s orphanage. This converts to about 1,831,764.00 Ugandan Shillings (UGX). To put this into perspective, the lowest average salary in Uganda for a single worker is around 522,000 UGX. This means that the orphanage currently receives the amount of roughly 3x the lowest average salary in funding, and must use this to provide for 50 people. Of course, this does not meet their every need. But this modest amount has been enough to entirely change their world.
Although it can be difficult to be sure that donations are going to the right place with so much distance between us and the orphanage, Magoola has made accounting extremely easy for us. He submits bank and sales receipts for every transaction to the board, along with hundreds of picture updates of increasingly happy and healthy children.
And, while many non-profit organizations have to employ a large staff to keep their operations going, Ministry Muzik is run entirely by the founders and the board, who take no money for their time and involvement. This means every penny that comes in goes towards helping Magoola and his orphanage.
The Harvest is Plentiful
There are so many opportunities to get involved in charitable outreach efforts, and we know that it can be difficult to discern which one is most deserving of your time and money. The only advice that can be given here is to leave that up to God. For our part, we are absolutely convinced that God is blessing the Mafubira Child Outreach Center through the work we’re doing.
We have already accomplished so much with the little that we have been able to contribute, but we have far to go. Ministry Muzik intends to increase funding to meet all the financial needs of the orphanage, and to begin implementing self-sufficiency programs within the orphanage to promote independency and sustainable growth. We also plan to open dialogues with local governance to hopefully obtain further assistance and resources where available, and to extend our outreach to more children in need. We are confident that, with your help, we can do all of this and more.
Be A Hero
If you have gotten to this point, hopefully you too have felt that quiet calling. The conviction that it is time for you to step up and make a difference. To be a hero. Please prayerfully consider coming alongside Ministry Muzik today with a one-time or monthly donation. $1 or $1000 - any amount helps.
We are a registered 501(c)(3), so every penny is tax deductable (please include all your contact information when donating to receive a deduction form). And you can rest assured that your donations will be well-spent, and go towards building a future for children who otherwise would have none.
